McDonald's reversed its earning. Thanks to BTS

K-pop idol group BTS is proving its powerful power in the global distribution market.

McDonald's, a global fast food franchise, announced that it recorded an 'earnings surprise' in the second quarter due to the BTS effect. During this period, McDonald's worldwide sales reached $5.89 billion, up 57% from the previous year. This is higher than the market consensus of $5.6 billion. Net profit was $2.22 billion five times the net profit of the same period last year.

Overseas media analyzed McDonald's good performance as the effect of the launch of the 'BTS set'. Reuters and CNBC evaluated that McDonald's, in partnership with BTS, launched the 'BTS Set' and the new menu 'Krispy Chicken Sandwich', which were released in February, as a sensational popularity and leading to earnings improvement. Bloomberg also said, "The 'Celebrity' menu launched with the Korean boy band 'BTS' ignited the increase in earnings."

The 'BTS Set', which was released in 50 countries, received an explosive response to the extent that delivery drivers flocked to Indonesia and some stores were shut down. Packaging papers such as purple cups, nuggets, and unopened sauce were sometimes sold for around $40 on second-hand trading sites such as eBay.

This is the first time McDonald's has partnered with a specific celebrity to launch a set menu worldwide. Last year, he sold a set menu with hip-hop singer Travis Scott, but it was limited to the US market.
