Apple - iPhone 13 production increase by 20%

Apple has set initial production of the iPhone 13 this year at 90 million units, up 20 percent from last year, and requested production from its suppliers.

In recent years, Apple has maintained its initial iPhone production at around 75 million units. iPhone 13, released this year, is expected to emphasize improvements in processor, camera and display.

According to Bloomberg, the iPhone 13, which will be unveiled by Apple in September this year, will come in the same four models as the iPhone 12, and that at least one of the four models will have an LTPO display.

The notch size is expected to be reduced, but Apple hopes to eventually remove the notch entirely from the iPhone, with the possibility of a further reduction in the notch size next year.

This year's iPhone 13 camera upgrade will focus on improved optical zoom and advanced video recording capabilities. It is also expected to be equipped with an upgraded chip built with the same six-core design as the A14 Bionic chip. Apple tested an in-display fingerprint scanner on the iPhone this year, but it won't apply this year, Bloomberg predicts.

An official said Apple has asked its suppliers to build up to 90 million iPhones, but the actual number could be a few million less than the target. Another official explained that the US sanctions against Huawei were a major factor in the increase in iPhone shipments.

Some said that the current global semiconductor shortage is not expected to have a significant impact on iPhone 13 production. Apple is the biggest customer of TSMC, a major semiconductor chip maker, and Apple's iPhone release date is fixed every year, so the reason is that it is planned in advance.
